FRESH LIME MARGARITA

FRESH LIME MARGARITA

This delicious Fresh Lime Margarita for four comes together quickly with aged Reposado Tequila and natural ingredients that will leave you feeling guilt free!

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Cut one large orange in half and squeeze 3 ounces of juice using a juicer or a reamer. Cut 1 lime into wedges for garnish.
  2. Wet the rim of 4 margarita glasses or cocktail glasses with the cut orange or lime. Dip the wet rim into margarita salt and set glasses aside.
  3. Add 8 ounces of fresh squeezed lime juice (do not use bottled juice) to a large measuring cup or pitcher.
  4. Add tequila, agave nectar, and orange juice to the same measuring cup or pitcher. If using Cointreau, add to this mixture. Stir well.
  5. Fill 4 salt rimmed glasses with ice and pour margarita mixture into the glasses. Garnish with lime wedges and serve immediately!

Notes

  1. Make Ahead Preparation or Entertaining for a Crowd: Add all cocktail ingredients to a large pitcher  and stir to combine. Cover pitcher with plastic wrap and refrigerate until completely chilled. When guests arrive, stir cocktail mixture well, pour into ice filled glasses, and garnish with lime wedges.
  2. Before cutting the limes, roll each lime back and forth on the counter while pressing down with the palm of your hand. This will soften them and allow you to get more juice out of your limes.

Organize all your tools and ingredients before you begin. Getting all your ingredients in one place at the beginning will shorten your prep time.

STEP 3

Do not use bottled juice! Squeeze 8 ounces of juice from several limes (see Note A below) into a large measuring cup (see Note B below) or pitcher.

Note A: Before cutting the limes, roll each lime back and forth on the counter while pressing down with the palm of your hand. This will soften them and allow you to get more juice out of your limes.

Note B: We recommend using a pitcher or the larger (4 cup) measuring cup in the link above. The 2 cup measuring cup shown in this photo is just a bit too small for all the ingredients, as this recipe makes 4 cocktails.

STEP 4

Add 8 ounces reposado tequila (or your favorite tequila), 2 tablespoons agave nectar, and the freshly squeezed orange juice to the same measuring cup or pitcher. If using Cointreau, add 1 tablespoon to this mixture. Stir well.

STEP 5

Fill 4 salt rimmed glasses with ice and pour margarita mixture into the glasses. Garnish with lime wedges and serve immediately!

Notes:

  1. Make Ahead Preparation - Entertaining for a Crowd: Add all cocktail ingredients to a large pitcher  and stir to combine. Cover pitcher with plastic wrap and refrigerate until completely chilled. When guests arrive, stir cocktail mixture well, pour into ice filled glasses, and garnish with lime wedges.

  2. We used fresh squeezed orange juice in this margarita recipe to replace the larger amounts of triple sec, Cointreau, or Grand Marnier liquors typically found in margarita recipes. The small touch of Cointreau is optional, but adds a “Cadillac margarita” flavor to this cocktail.

FRESH LIME MARGARITA - How to Make this Deliciously Fresh Cocktail in 5 Steps

Blog Comments & Tips

A fresh and guilt-less alternative to those high calorie margarita mixes!

Almost everyone I know loves a good margarita. However, many restaurant margaritas or store bought margarita mixes contain lots of refined sugar, preservatives, and sulfites. The other scary bit is they range from 200-500 calories per drink!

Our Fresh Lime Margarita recipe uses pure ingredients that are fresh squeezed and wholesome (never thought I’d use the term wholesome in the same sentence as a cocktail!). This cocktail has only 175 calories per serving and even though it is not sugar free, you don’t have to feel guilty about having one (or maybe two?).

Top 3 Health Benefits of this Fresh Lime Margarita

  1. Agave nectar has a low-glycemic index, making it easier for your body to process and preventing those icky blood sugar spikes.

  2. 100% agave tequila has been said (by some experts) to have anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties.

  3. Freshly squeezed lime juice is high in vitamin C and rich in antioxidants.

We recommend using a good quality reposado tequila, which is 100% agave. Reposado tequila is aged between 2 months and up to 1 year and will add a bolder and slightly smokier element to this drink. Feel free to use blanco (silver) tequila, which is “aged” between 0-2 months and offers a cleaner taste to this cocktail.

Footnote: Remember to roll your limes to get the most juice out of them.
