Mama’s Candied Yams

These easy baked yams are a tender and delicious side dish, without being overly sweet. Mama’s Candied Yams are bathed in brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and orange juice, then baked to create a caramelized sauce to make them sweet and fork tender. With the classic flavors of Southern candied yams, combined with some mid-century nostalgia, this 60 year old recipe is a favorite Thanksgiving side dish from my mother’s kitchen. We modernized the recipe to make it quick and easy to prepare, and finished it with some chopped pecans to give them some crunch.
